We embrace all opinions about the book (what moved you, what themes did you notice, etc.) and aim for a lively discussion, but no one is forced to speak. You may read the book in English or in Finnish and participate also as a listener. Join us regularly or on the dates that fit your schedule. The theme for the year 2023 is Courage.

Louis Sachar: Holes / suom. Paahde (1998)
Louis Sachar is one of the most well-known American young-adult (YA) authors, and his popular Wayside School series is beloved by Americans of all ages. In our first SAM Book Club meeting in 2023, we will discuss Sachar’s 1998 novel Holes, a mystery-comedy set in Camp Green Lake in Texas where our protagonist is sent after being falsely accused of theft. A funny story full of twists and turns, a tale of misunderstandings and forgiving, this novel takes its reader on a journey to childhood adventures while highlighting the many challenges that come with being a teenager and trying to figure out how society works.
