Fannie Flagg: Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe / suom. Paistetut vihreät tomaatit (1987)
Fannie Flagg’s 1987 novel Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe is a heart-warming story set (mostly) in a 1930s café in Alabama, where fascinating tales are told and important lessons passed on from generation to generation. This now-classic novel explores the beauty of different kinds of friendships, the strength of family ties and the art of feeding hungry customers. Indeed, reading this book, you can almost smell the fresh coffee and the fried green tomatoes cooking up at the Whistle Stop Café. If you like the novel, check out the film of the same name, directed by Jon Avnet in 1991.
